Today’s quote:

A friend who is far away is sometimes much nearer than one who is at hand. Is not the mountain far more awe-inspiring and more clearly visible to one passing through the valley than to those who inhabit the mountain?

~ Kahlil Gibran

I grew up 3000 miles away from where I live right now and I’m not entirely sure that I would still be friends with my childhood playmates. People change, paths diverge and we grow apart. I was reminded this past weekend though that some friends will always remain friends. One of my closest friends growing up was my first cousin Susan. Despite the fact that she was 4 years younger we were constant playmates up until I became a teenager – the fact that there were not other children living around us might have helped our friendship on a little 🙂 Many, many year later, several countries and countless adventures we got to spend some time together again, at her brother’s wedding. We’re very different, in looks and personality; I’m quite reserved, she is outgoing, I’m fair skinned, she’s dark, but I think it’s funny that we both ended up with black and white dresses for a wedding, and similarly shaded pink toes 🙂 Miss ya Sooze! Please excuse bad photo – indoor lighting, crappy camera etc oh and yeah, I chopped all my hair off .

Other long-distance friends include all my pea-pals, most of whom I haven’t met but yet I feel like I know. I met the lovely RitasCottage, we were stuck in traffic together for almost 4 hours but I don’t think there was more than a 20 second silence the whole time. I’ll be meeting many more at CHA I hope, but the one I’m most excited about is when I finally get to meet Marci as CSCFK in October – no pressure Marci, I just have a feeling we’ll be ok.
