Today’s quote:

Guard well your spare moments. They are like uncut diamonds. Discard them and their value will never be known. Improve them and they will become the brightest gems in a useful life.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Spare moments – a precious commodity these days. Having two small children means that there is very little “spare” time and so, I guard those moments jealously. I get upset with myself when I don’t use my spare time wisely, when I don’t get anything accomplished. I’ve taken to writing lists of things I need to do so that I will at least have something to show for my free time. Getting a pedicure, creating a layout or reading a book is actually accomplishing something – I just don’t like to waste time staring into space or watching too much TV (habits I can fall into every now and again).

I reminisce about those times when I was a teenager (and even later) when I was bored – ah the luxury of boredom! Now there are so many things that I want to do that I feel like I could fill ever hour from here to eternity. So many books to read, so many things to learn, so many skills to master – how is it that I am only realizing that now?
